THE STORY
BEHIND THE BOARDS
What started as a fun project between a dad and his son has quickly turned into something much bigger.
A few years ago, we renovated our family home. Part of that project involved removing some old rimu timber that had been part of the house for many years. Rather than throwing it away, we stacked it under the deck, where it sat waiting for a future purpose.
As a family, we've often talked about one day owning a caravan and heading off on adventures around New Zealand together. Recently the kids started asking an interesting question:
"What can we do to help make that happen?"
For 9-year-old Zander, these chopping boards became one of the answers.
Working alongside Dad, he's learning how to transform old timber into something beautiful and useful again. He helps with sanding, oiling, branding, finishing, and preparing each board, while Dad helps with some of the heavier machinery and technical parts.
Every board is unique. The grain, markings, and character in the timber tell the story of a previous life, while the finished board begins a new one.
In many ways, that's what this project is really about.
It's about learning new skills. It's about hard work, creativity, and believing that even young people can build something meaningful.
And it's also a reminder that old, forgotten things can still have incredible value. Sometimes all they need is a fresh purpose.
The same is true for timber.

We accept family crests, company logos, or personal marks. You supply the design, we handle the translation from paper to wood. The process is precise: the result is enduring. Perfect for heirlooms or the workshop floor.
